Studio 2055 wins award from the American Association of Museums for the GIA Calendar

The 2007 "Happy Holidays" GIA Museum calendar was recently honored for excellence in design.

The 27th Annual AAM Publications Design Competition acknowledges excellence in the graphic design of museum publications and is the only national, juried event involving publications produced by museums of all kinds and sizes.

Two awards were given under the "Calendars" category for museum budgets under $750,000 - "First Place" and "Honorable Mention." The GIA Museum won the "Honorable Mention" award for the "Happy Holidays" calendar that GIA sent out as their holiday greeting. It was designed by Studio 2055 of Carlsbad, California. This year's contest drew 1,040 entries from museums across the nation and, of those, 104 entries were selected as winners.

GIA's winning calendar was created using 12 photos of jewelry and gemstones chosen from the "Celebrating Excellence in Gems and Jewelry" exhibit, the special collection of one-of-a-kind pieces the GIA Museum brought together last year in conjunction with the 4th International Gemological Symposium. The exhibit debuted on August 26, 2006 at GIA's 75th Anniversary celebration, and was kept on display at the Institute's Carlsbad headquarters and Robert Mouawad Campus through November 30, 2006.
